Lower Grades Waldorf Teacher – 2025/2026 School Year
Susquehanna Waldorf School is seeking a passionate and experienced Waldorf-trained teacher to join our vibrant community as a Lower Grades Class Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate would be committed to Waldorf education and dedicated to fostering a nurturing, creative, and engaging environment for young learners.

The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for a teacher who has a strong foundation in Waldorf education, with experience teaching in the early grades of elementary school. Preference will be given to candidates with Waldorf training and certification. The ideal candidate will be:

Long-Term Substitute Kindergarten Lead Teacher
Susquehanna Waldorf School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Long-Term Substitute Kindergarten Lead Teacher to join our early childhood program from September to December 2025. This position has the potential to extend beyond December. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for guiding a class of young children through the rhythms of a Waldorf-inspired kindergarten experience, fostering a warm, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about early childhood education and committed to Waldorf pedagogy.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Classroom Leadership: Plan and implement a nurturing and structured daily rhythm that includes story time, circle time, creative play, and outdoor exploration.
- Developmentally Appropriate Instruction: Foster a learning environment that supports children’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth through Waldorf-inspired methods.
- Snack & Meal Preparation: Prepare and serve healthy snacks, ensuring a calm and pleasant mealtime atmosphere.
- Transition Guidance: Support children through daily transitions with warmth, patience, and clear communication.
- Festival & Event Participation: Lead and coordinate seasonal festivals and classroom events in collaboration with faculty and families.
- Behavior Modeling: Demonstrate and encourage positive behavior and problem-solving techniques in alignment with Waldorf pedagogy.
- Parent Communication: Maintain open and respectful communication with parents, providing updates on classroom activities and student progress.
- Classroom Maintenance: Ensure a clean, organized, and inviting classroom space, incorporating natural and Waldorf-inspired materials.
- Physical Engagement: Actively participate in outdoor activities, including walks and free play, in all weather conditions.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with young children in an educational setting
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Relevant state and federal clearances to work in a school setting
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to create a warm, structured environment
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical ability to meet the demands of working with young children, including extended time outdoors
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (Waldorf teaching certification or training preferred)

Aftercare Lead Teacher
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Aftercare Lead Teacher to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. This position involves creating a warm, engaging, and nurturing environment for children in our aftercare program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Management: Arrange for the set-up and clean-up of the classroom to ensure an inviting and organized space for aftercare activities.
- Rhythm and Atmosphere: Create and maintain an atmosphere appropriate to the after-school rhythms, supporting a sense of balance and calm for the children.
- Play Supervision: Channel, supervise, and nurture both outdoor and indoor play, encouraging imaginative and cooperative activities.
- Group Transitions: Hold the group appropriately during transition times, ensuring smooth and respectful movement between activities.
- Parent Communication: Provide parents with information about the rhythms and events of the day in a clear and professional manner.
- Collaboration: Maintain open communication with the Aftercare Assistant, Class teachers, and parents to address special needs and requests.
- Team Leadership: Guide and work cooperatively with the assistant, fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment.
- Child Safety: Ensure the safe transfer of children to their respective guardians – staff, parents, or other designated adults – at the end of the day.
Qualifications:
- A working knowledge of Waldorf philosophy and pedagogy.
- Previous experience as an assistant in a Waldorf program.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff.
